THE MAUI NEWS SATURDAY, JUNE 30, 1906 5 LOCALS A large number of race-course en thusiasts were on the track of the Maui Racing Assoculion one day this week to witness the performance of the many horses that are already in training lor the Fourth of July. Some excellent races will be run and close finishes are expected. A very large pear tree that stood by the oflice of the Maui Publishing Company has been cut down as it showed signs of decay. The fruit on one of the trees that still stands has brought as high as t35.00 per year to its owner and has been no expense, jjfcr'v do people not plant more of these profitable trees? The work on the concrete sidewalk will soon te completed on Main Street and it will then be begun 'on Mar ket Street. His Honor A. N. Kepoikai is busy this week hearing the many cases passed up to him by the attorneys, who preferred to have him hear the cases without the expense of a jury, thus saving much to the tax payers and earning the gratitude of the juryme...
