Tho Union Labor party held its state con vention in Detroit on tho 15th Inst., adopted a platform and placed a state ticket in nom ination. The platform adopted is as follows : General discontent prevails on the part of the wealth producer. Farmers are suffer ing from a povorty which has forcod most of them to mortgage their estates, and the prices of products are so low as to offer no relief except through bankruptcy. Labor ers are sinking into great dependence. Strikes aro resorted to without bringing re lief, because of the inability of employers in innny cases to pay living wages, while more and more aro driven into the street. Business men find collections almost impos sible, and meantime hundreds of millions of idie public money which is needed for relief is locked up in tho United States treasury or placed without interost in favored banks in grim mockery of distr...

THE STATE. Fierce Forest Fires. Advises from Ishpeming dated August '27, hay: Forest fires to the south are very bad. Twenty houses have been burned at Na deau, llolten, und Mumford. Stores, coal kilns, and freight cars have been burned. Iiailroad bridges were saved by tho en pines. Tolcgraph ioles and wires were burnod down. People from burning vil lages aro removing to Powers and Stephen son. One family of seven parsons aro missing from Mumford and aro supposed to have been burnod. Farmers who were working tho clearings loBt their buildings, crops and everything but their lives. Smoke covers everything. It Is impossible to estimate the losses. At Mumford four charcoal kilns and all tho buildings were burned to the ground. Live stock was lost and the people saved only what they had on. The women and children were taken to Powers for safety on a special train. Twenty -11 vo buildings wore burned; loss 15,000; uninsured.
