A Yankee Padler's Trick. A' Connecticut broom pedillw a shrewd chap, from over among the cheap wooden clocks, schoolmasters, an4 other fixing drove throuph the streets of Providence heavily laden with corn brooms. He had called at several ntores and offered load, or ever so small a portion of it, but when he want ed the cash and nothing else, in pay ment, they had uniformily given him to undersUnd that they had brooms enough, and that he might go further. At length he drove up to a large whole sale store on the west side, and once more offered his wares. - 'Well, I want the brooms badly enough,' aaid the merchant, 'but what will you take in pay?' This was a poser. The peddler was aching to get nd of his brooms; he des pised the very sight of them, but he would sooner sell a single broom for cash than the whole load for any other artic le especially that which he could not dispose of as readily as he could the brooms. They are expensive to purchase, : ami those unable to afford it can get' them for notliing by growing from cut- tings. " When alluding to the manner of pro pagating cuttings, the New England Farmer says that it has been ascertained that a cutting will derelop roots much Hooner in moist soil than in rich soil. Hut the sand cannot maintain its growth for any length of time. To prepare pot for raising cuttinex they nhould be filled nearly to the brim with rich garden loam dark and porous, not clayey and soggy ; then pour in one inch in depth of N-ouring Mtnl -sea sand will do as well as the yellow sand. Wet tliis thor- oughly, and place the cuttings, from which all but the three or four upper leaves have been removed, close to the aide of the pot ; the contact of the ware against the stem of the cuttings pro-' motes its growth.
