Among the advantages expected to be realized by the use of this'press, is the impoii aut one that it will enalJe cotton-laden vessels to carry much larger cargoes, besides securing increased facili ty in handling m decreased danger from destruction by Are or injury by moisture. Paint then employed will endure twice as long as when applied in early summer or hot weather. When cold ttir in as much Sour as will give it the consisten cy of thick cream, being particular to beat up all the iumps ; stir in as much poweied resin as will lay on a dime, and throw in half a dozen cloves to give a pleasant odor. TTavn a teacup of boi'iug water, pour the flour mixture into if, stirring well all the time. In a very few minutes it will be the consistency of musb. Tour it into an earthen or china vessel ; let it cool ; lay a cover on, and put in a cool place. When needed for use, take out a por tion and soften it with warm water.
