-4wafc3-w j ' frtr &: 2&r If Our Young Readers. f THE CASE LESS BOY AND HIS. ARK. There was a wee boy, just as bright as a lark; He bad many toys, and among- them an arjc, Where lions, and-leopards, and tigers, and bears, And all sorts of animals gathered in pairs. Two camels in green and a pink kangaroo: Two elephants black, a rhinoceros blue; A keeper to drive them all in when it rained: I can't tell you half what this' boy's ark con tained. This wee boy was careless. How many boys are! Although his two eyes were as bright as a star ; He often neglected to locic up bis toys, When daylight was done, with its games and its joys. So, just bow it happened I never could tell. But one balmy evening this boy heard a yell, A clatter of hoofs and a low-muttered growl, Then something not unlike a terrible bowl! For out of the ark all the animals strayed A sight to make most little people afraid. They climbed up the bed-posts and walked o'er the bed. Where lay this wee boy, in perpet...

rtMng nkTmcYHmg Apple. Winter apples designed for long : keeping should not be harvested nntu they have developed color and flavor natural to the ripe fruit Manr sorts may hang on the tree with benefit until there is danger of. injury from frosts. Varieties that ripen irregularly ought to be gathered accordingly. It is a ( worse blunder to allow the fruit to re- j main until over-ripe than the other extreme of picking while immature. Harvest apples in- dry weather only, for fruit free from atmospheric moisture . wueu uiKsn irom ine tree, other things , being equal, keeps longest. Always hand-pick appleswhich are to be stored, and be careful not to bruise or break the skin in subsequent handling. Se,- cure the fruit from sun and storms un til sorted. Many of our best pomolo fists have two sets of hands at time of arrest, one for gathering the apples and the other for sorting and packing immediately in barrels. Shake the bar rels gently two or three times during the process of filling...

The Female Suffragists of New Eng land celebrated the thirtieth anniversary of their organization at Worcester, Mass., on the 21st. The Rock River Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, by a vote of 107 to 47, adopted resolutions declaring that the Rev. H. W. Thomas, of Chicago, "holds doctrines at variance with the historic the ology of the Methodist Episcopal Church," which peculiar views are alleged to be "a source of continued irritation to himself and disturbance to the peace of our Church," and therefore requesting him to withdraw from the ministry of said Church. This Dr. Thomas flatly refuses to do, for various rea sons stated, chief among which is that the' complaints brought against him are purely in reference to real or supposed differences of opinion as to the best methods of stat ing and explaining certain doctrinal points; that he has used a ...
