TUe Splr ll.-.Unldcii of H III lit – L. n m!. [Newspaper Article] — Los Angeles Star — 6 May 1854

TUe Splr ll.-.Unldcii of H III lit - L. n m!. It was almost evening ; the sun was si r king upon its imperial couch of gorgeous clouds. I whilst hna.nt,ifn] crimson and gold were reflected through the trees. The eaim, broad bosomed Rhine slept along its greenbowered banks, and the dying sun rays twinkled and flashed in its blue depths. The summer air was soft, and sweet as ft breath of roses; and a gush of dreamy melo dy. from some idling bark upon the water, stole as a "opirit's presence" over the earth. Paul stood at the door of his father's mansion, watching the changing colors of the beautiful landscape. His heart was overflowing with tu muHuous emotions, thanksgiving and praise to the Watchful One. He turned his head over his shoulder, and glanced back into the choin ber which he had but just left; there, in his accustomed place, the evening glow tirging his silvery locks, sat the blind and aged father, and at his side, upon a low stool, was seated his young cousin, the meek an...

May Day. [Newspaper Article] — Los Angeles Star — 6 May 1854

May Day. American customs and character are the pride of all the true men and women who have emigrated so far away from home. Under the auspices of Mrs Hartman, whose school was joined by other children in town, a picnic was arranged in the alameda of Don Luis Vignes, who, with his well known liberality, furnished his tables and servants for the occasion. ¶ Some twenty or thirty American children, all dressed in whi...
