This year's Sing was unlike those in years past The fact that it was held in the spring rather than at Homecoming in the fall and that there was only one tradition- al Sing act rather than four or five made this year's event unique. Some legislators have wanted to cut back funding: others have argued to leave it as it is. Pa$e 6 The Brand February 29 1996 Compelling production opens in Van Ellis tonight By Cms Hatcher catertamment editor If you're not planning to see the opening of the HSU Department of Theatre's production of "JB" tonight I've got three words for you change your plans. This has to be the most powerful message-play Hardki-Simmons has presented since "Who's Life is it Anyway?'' ran three years ago. Possibly more so. I viewed the dress rehersal for "JB" on Monday night and despite anticipated kinks here and there I was highly impressed with the play's theme and thes- pians alike. The production is a modem interpre- tation of the life of Job. For all you "hea- thens' unaware of the biblical story Satan was allowed to strip Job of everything he had as a test of his faithfulness' to God. God commanded Satan to spare his life. but all of Job's possessions from family to finances were fair game. The story puts Job in the predicament of either trusting in God through his time of suffering or...

Eight men's teams from around the campus vied for the opportunity to represent HSU at the regional tourna- ment to be held on the campus of the University of Texas- Arlington March 1-2. Teams were seeded into a double-elimination brack- et which allowed any team who lost early to come back and possibly win the championship. However this did not come to pass due to the inside play of Easy Money's Anthony Easlcy and the outside shooting prowess of Brian Edwards. Easy Money won the championship without losing a game. Other members of the winning team were Michael Daggs and Wayne Lisenbce. The runner-up team The Franchise included Mitch Abies John Green a...

You could almost say that my brain is somewhat recovered from the strain of information overload. Now it is time to get back to "The Grind." It is stretch-run time and graduation is near for seniors. For me personally it is time to buckle down and not get distracted by all the things I plan to do after graduation because first I must and will graduate. I have seen it before. Students sometimes look past their last semester and towards graduation and beyond. That can be a disastrous point of view to take. I think I was there prior to Spring Break. . .--- March 211996 The Brand Page 3 Making God like the air that we breath Do you ever feel like you arc being pulled in a hundred different direction at once? We all know that we need to keep what it really important as pri- ority but I know in my own life EVERYTHING that I'm involved in feels like it U priority. This creates a problem. This cre- ates a divided heart. As Christians we have been taught that Christ needs to take first priority but sometimes that is not as easy to manage as we think it should be. It is pretty simple to pay lip-service to God but to love Him with your whole heart can sometimes be a real challenge. Why? We know what we ought to do so why is it so hard to follow 1 through? One reason is that we live in a society that reminds us daily that we need to be number one in ' our lives referring to ourselves (rather than the Lord). It clearly states in a ' 'av aaaPtai aaV Kristin Hawkins FaiflvHope & Love Deuteronomy 65 "Love the Lord your God with all your...

March 21 1996 The Brand Page 5 Starving For Perfection By Colleen DeBaise College Press Service Lisa developed bulimia at age 18 when she first started dieting. When things were not going well she'd have an uncontrollable desire for sweets. She would eat pounds of candy not stopping until she was exhausted or in severe pain. Then a feeling of guilt and disgust set in and she would make herself vomit While her body weight remained the same there was a heavy toll on Lisa's personality. On any given day she could be angry frightened or depressed. Lisa's story as described in a report by the National Institutes on Health is not an uncommon one especially on college campuses. Despite two decades of education an estimated 5 to 10 percent of college students will suffer from dangerous eat- ing disorders such as anorexia or self-starvation and bulimia or compulsive binging-and-purging.
