Mrs Marjorie Johnson Chiropodist Commencing Feb. 1. 1951 At Corner of Johnson and . Grant St. (Satori's "THE MAN.ON TIE FARML.r When you get out where a man has a little elbow-room and a chance to de velop, lie has thoughts of his own. His thinking is not supplied to him every night and every morning, and he is less of a machine and more of a man, so that I do not think that the farmers need to be looked upon, or want to be looked upon, as dependents. of the State. They do not come to the State Government asking alms.i They arn self-rellant, they are intelligent. What we want in connection with agricul ture is what we want in connection with every other field of noble effort. We want training, we want intelli gence, we want scientific method, we want direction, we want the way shown and then the man can walk in it. There Is no reason why the same care and attention and skill and scientilic consideration should not be devoted to agriculture as to industry and the technical trades. Th...

LIME IN THE ORCHARD. [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra Standard and Yarck, Gobur, Thornton, Taggerty and Acheron Express — 1 December 1950

LIME IN THE ORCHARD. The value of lime in the orchard and its effect as a fungicide was recently referred to by DMr. S. Kinner, a New Seuth Wales orchardist. He observed: "Some years ago I took over a pro porty' in which were planted some young trees. M.ny of them were nearly dead with scale, aphis, black fungus, or smut. Some I cut down close to the ground, and the others I sprinkled with dry lime (quick lime or slaked tlime) during a slight shower, and in SLw weeks the trees had put out young shoots, and are to-day fine, healthy trees. I have thrown lime over them three times altogether in nine years [ could estimate that treating each tree S . cost ed. Everyone is surprised at the healthy, clean appearance 6f my orange trees. My opinion always has been that one of the principal causes of - disease in' fruit-trees is want of lime in the' soil. If orchardists would only give their orchards a good dressing of lime they would surprise themselves as well as the inspectors. The waste l...
