The Cattle-straying Nuisance. [Newspaper Article] — The Shoalhaven News and South Coast Districts Advertiser — 8 July 1893

The Cattle-straying Nuisance One dny during the week, a /buggy owned by Mrs. E. Rvan,-pf ?Crookhaven,, and which was being diiven through Numba by George Clifford, accom panied bv three other young men, ran over a calf that was lying in the road way, and capsized. The calf was lying in .the centre of the road between the enclosed fig tree and the cor ner fence of Suua's Hotel, and tbe driver in turning the corner did not notice the animal until it was too late to pull up. The. consequence was that the vehicle bumped heavily over the calf, and immediately capsized, throwing the driver and his com-' pnnionsout. They, however, escaped unhurt, but the vehicle and harness were somewhat knocked about. Com plaints are frequently made as to cattle straying in and around the village, and this escape from a serious accident should be a lesson to the munioipal authorities, who should take steps to prevent tho nuisance of cattle straying. Had a life been lost in this instance, the day would hav...

Liver Complaint Is the cause of many pains and aches which some people consider are separate and distinot complaints. Headaches, palpitation, indigestion, flatulence, &o., are symptoms of a disordered liver and stomach. Many are the quack nostrums sold as cures for 'indigestion;' bet surely the world is getting sufficiently enlightened to Sue through the quackery which is so prevalent in this country. There are broken-down plumbers, Dainters, plasterers, and printers selling ' medicines ' to cure diseases of which these people do not even know the symp toms, to say nothing of the therapeutics. Such is not the case with Dr. Fletcher's Pills. These are the prescription of one of England's most eminent physicians and pathologista, and have been used most successfully by him for the last thirty years in private and hospital practice. The Parson ia Polities. [Newspaper Article] — The Shoalhaven News and South Coast Districts Advertiser — 15 July 1893

The Parson in Politics. The references to the New South Wales Parliament by the reverend gentleman who lectured in Nowra on Wednesday evening last in connection with the Orange cele bration afford further evidence of the fast-growing unpopularity of the' principle of payment of members. Many reasonable persons who were at last general election strongly in favor of the principle are now just as firmly opposed to it, seeing the results of its application to our legislature during tins last few years. Too often the expressed opinions of clergymen in politics are not regarded as they should lie- There seems to bo. an impression frequently that the men of cloth are not capable of judging of the actions of representatives in Par liament, or their fitness to occupy th/ur positions, and are often advised to let the cobbler stick to his last. But this is a mistaken idea. Clergymen have in the history of our colony been of vast assistance to Parliament, and in the choosing of representatives....

Mining. [Newspaper Article] — The Shoalhaven News and South Coast Districts Advertiser — 15 July 1893

Mining. Mr. J. Alcorn, of the Dowling Progress Association, thinks that the Government should grant the Ulladulla district portion of the prospecting vote. Ho says there is no doubt that much of the country to the westward is gold-bearing, and that it is understood the Mining Warden (Mr. Maunsell) is in favor of a grant from the vote being devoted to its prospecting. William Brownlee has applied to the Department for permission to mine for coal on portion of a reserve of 607 acres (m p 43) at Tamberoo. A mineral lease of 40 acres, parish Yalwal, by John Dailey, was cancelled on Tuesday last. Several Illawarra residents have taken «p quartz claims at Little River.
