Farmers and Settlers' Association. .'^A. -Meeting of the members of the Hil|ston Farmers and Settlers' Associa tion was held at Finch's Hotel on Saturday evening, the attendance being ,'Lbouh tnirty persons, nearly all of whom are members. The President (Mr. K. W, Stewart) said the meeting had been convened for the purpose of appointing a aele gatp to attend a deputation represent mg.'Hjtyi Gunbar, and other localities, to proceed to Sydney to interview Min isters and urge the granting of the con cessions advocated atlast meeting of the Association. He understood, however, that- since the purpose of the meeting had been advertised, an alteration had be.e'n made in the date on. which the deputation was to leave for Sydney, and this alteration precluded the Hill ston branch from sending a represent ative. As a matter of fact the deputation had already interviewed tlie Minister for Lands, so that thenecessity for appointing a representative was now not necessary. No doubt many of them ...

The Spectator special telegram, pub lished on Saturday afternoon, stating that the Government has decided to supply seed wheat to those requiring such assistance, and further, that the Minister for Lands gave the promise to a deputation representing Hay, Hill ston, and Mossgiel districts, that he wnnlrl orivtt a.ll ft hp. relief in his linwpi' to distressed landholders, upon such making individual application for sus pension of rents and instalments due lor this year, was regarded by all. sec tions of the community as very wel come news indeed. Of course, what is promised, is only part of what was asked for but it is as much as the writer ever, expected would be con ceded.
