Women Warriors of Dahomey. [Newspaper Article] — The North Queensland Register — 10 August 1892

Women Warriors Dahomey. THE following from the Review of Reviews is interesting in the light of the little war now going on between Dahomey and France: -The recent French operations in West Africa called into existence a number of articles on Dahomey past and present in the current French periodicals, the most in teresting among them being *' The military forces of Dahomey,' in the Revue Scientifique of April 23rd, and " The attack on Kotonou March4th, 1890, in the Revive Blette of April 30th. both by M. Jean BayoL The former article is a study of the whole miliboy organ. ieation of Dahomey, while the description of the attack on Kotonou two yeans ago illus trates very forcibly the art of warfare, with its defects, as practised by the Dahomeyans, M Bayol having been one of (lie Europeans at Kotonou on the night of the attack. M. Bayol estimates the number of regular soldiers who live by warfare at Abomey and in the various camps on the north and west frontiers in times of peace at t...

Ail Riglits ReservedL. *********** ****** CHAPTER XVI.-ON THE BRINK. Nay, he could see but the one clear and resolute way out of all these perplexities, which was that he should forthwith and without further pre amble marry Maisrie Bethune : there after his--relatives might do or say whateirtjr it most pleased them to do "^~""W*gay. This would be his answer j to the vague but persistent suspicions of Mrs. Ellison, and to the more precise but none the less preposterous accusa tions of his father. Then as regards Maisrie herself, would, not this con clusive act banish all those dim presentiments and alarms with which she seemed to regard the future P And if her present circumstances involved her in humiliation, he would take her out of these. The beautiful fair young bride could be prettily housed some...

It covers about 20 acres, is the largest iu IVorth Queensland, and there is always a great depth of water. Mr Moffat, so faras he can, protect® the wild fowl, which reft ann live on the peaceful bosom of the reservoir, and no shooting be ng allowed, they are present in great numbers. The boys n...
