A too Penitent Thief. A stray horso which had been running for several months within a short distance of Back Blocks town, was claimed and sold by a saloon koopor named C. A strangor, who hail just arrived in the locality, hear ing tho circumstances, procured a descrip tion of the animal, called on Mr. C., and asked him if lib hud sold such a horse. Household Receipts. I To Prcsorvo Oranges. — Take any number of oranges, with rather more than their weight in white sug'ir. Slightly, grate tho orange i and scoro thorn round and round with a knife, but do not cut very doop. l'ut them in cold, water for threo days, changing tho water two or threo times a day. Tie them up in a cloth, boil tliem till thoy aro soft enough for tho head of u pin to ponotruto through the skin. Whilo they aro boiling, plaeo tlio sugar on tho fire, with rather moro than half a pint of water to each pound ; lot it boil for a minuto i r two, thon strain it through- muslin.- l'ut tho oranges into the svrup till it jellies and is of u yellow color, 'fry the syrup by putting somo ' to cool.
