Red Cress Society, hold in the Mechanics' li.ill. for the purpose of discussing what should bo done to assist the Belgium Relief Fund locally, there was an enthusiastic attend ance, and it was finally resolved to hold a Jumble Fair and a con cert and dance on Wednesday, 7th April. A very strong com mittee, consisting mostly of the fair sex, has been appointed to carry out arrangements. Mr. J. J. Richardson was appointed pre sident to the movement, and the Rev. Mr. Taylor secretary. It was rumored that a Picnic Race Meeting would augment the Fair, but at a meeting this was* dis cussed, and it was decided to take no action in that regard. The Starving Belgians. SYMPATHY AT DOOKIE. BELIEF FUND OPENED. Id response to the advertisement by the Shire President, Or. G. H. Gibson, calling a public meeting for discussing ways and rneauB for rais ing funds tovvaids the relief of the starring Belgians, a goodly number | assembled in the Victoria Hall on Monday night. Gi. Gibson presided, and in ex plaining the object of tho meeting, said no doubt they could ail imagine the sorry plight in which these unfortunate Belgian people were placed. They had not sufficient or proper food, aud were at the mercy uf a most brutal foe. Their plight was all the moru intensified by the fact that the starving millions were composed mostly of women, old men and children. Dookic Church of England. The annual meeting of the above was held in the church at the close of divine service on Sunday night, there being a fair attendance of parishioners pre sent. The secretary read the report and balance sheet for the nine months ending 31st December, 191-1. A new departure has been arranged for lb; .inancial year to clo.se on the 31st December, in lieu of the 31st March, as hitherto. General satisfaction was ex pressed at the result of the recent bazaar and sale of work conduct ed by the members of ithe Ladies' Guild, whereby £121 was netted. The debt on the rectory has now been wiped out. Attention was drawn to the state of the walls of the church, which are severely cracked in places, and need immediate at tention.
