London. Saturday, June 18. [Newspaper Article] — The Darling Downs Gazette and General Advertiser — 25 August 1859

London. Saturdar. June 18. This portion of my present dispatch win be found to contain matters of very considerable interest, and no less important. There have been no more battles between the belligerents in Italy, bnt there are a variety of incidents, movements, andother circumstances   bearing upon the war, to which particular at- tention may be directed.   A critical period in the hitory of Europe is approaching. The Italian war will either very soon be over — but which I don't for one mo- nent deem at all probable - or Germany will take part on the side ot Austria, and lead to the interference of Russia on the side of France. Affairs look very ominous, indeed, of great and desperate struggles between the nations of Europe. The fearful war shadowed forth in Revelations, and prophesied, or rather, I sbould say alluded to, by many divines, seems looming in the distance, or something very like it. All Italy is rising and declaring for national &nbs...

EXTRAORDINARY FANATICISM IN IRELAND. [Newspaper Article] — The Darling Downs Gazette and General Advertiser — 1 September 1859

EXTBAOEDIXAEV FANATICISM IN IRE LAND. The Belfast papers hava for the last few weeks been filled with accounts of tbe most remarkable ' religious revival,' as it is called, which cer tainly has produced some very extraordinary results. Tbe excitement at Belfast u- subsiding, but it appears to have spread into the adjacent districts. The following statement, forwarded by a clergyman of the county of Deny, described a state of social disorganisation which u posi tively lamentable. The writer says : — , ' The work cocimenoed here on bat Tuesdry evening, by an open-sir gathering, at which some of an organised band, which travels the country for this purpose, joined about a dozen clergymen in prtachuig, singing, and velline. Soir.e of tbe organisers were aiaaifestly idiotic, and all were grossly ignorant uf tlie simplest principles of Christianity. Since then things have become daily wane and worse. Business may be ssid to be at an end ; and from morning till nipht, but much more from ni...
