In our brief summary of the chief objects in our colonial collection, we omitted to mention the display from the new colony of Queensland, which is very complete, particularly in specimens of law prodnce. The samples of Boa Island cotton grown here will no doubt be Toy careftilh- examined, as well as the wool . and silk, samples of which are also exhibited. Of woods from this colony there is an immense variety many of them of great beanty, and to show how well they work np, Mr. Justice Lut wycu'e sends a very elegant set of chessmen and a table of myall and cypress wood mixed. One of tiie handsomest pieces of colonial furniture. is a table inlaid with - radons woods, at the entrance to the Kew Zealand Court. Lady Cooper contributes a .case of Queensland jewelry, the chief objects in which are a pearl of considerable size, mounted in gold, and a brooch of white topazes. NEWySOOTH WALKS. ' .' (Am lie S. IT. Herald.) A test destmctive fire broke out at an early hoar on .Sunday morning, the 4th instant, having ^originated in the tipper portion of a building in Bank-court, off- king-street, oc cupied as a wholesale drat; store by Messrs. John and Edward Bow. The fire brigades were promptly on the spot, and happily their exertions to prevent the spread of the conflagration to neighboring properties wore crowned with encceas. In addition, however, to the' complete destrnctionof :ke store and its contents, considerable diunage was done to a building used as a*, iron store by Messrs. Wcckes and Co, ihe roof or which was crushed in by a porti* m of the fall ing gable of the store, the tire Jierttby com municating with the stock, which included a small quantity of gunpowder. The latter dangerous commodity having been removed at great personal risk, the flames were wholly subdued in the course of two or three Imurs. The total loss is £15,000. of which amount ...
