PARLIAMENTARY PAPER. THE MARYLAND TIN COUNTRY. [Newspaper Article] — Rockhampton Bulletin — 14 May 1872

PARLIAMENTARY PAPER. THE MARYLAND TIN COUNTRY. THE following report by the Surveyor General on the mineral discoveries on the bead of the Severn River and its tributaries, in the district of Darling Downs South, was laid on the table of the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday last : Serveyor-General's Office, Brisbane, April 20, 1872. Sir, - Having visited that portion of the district of Darling Downs where tin ore has been recently discovered, I have the honour to forward a report thereon, based chiefly on personal observation. The discoveries of tin ore extend continuously across the boundary of the colony into New South Wales, but the time at my disposal did not admit of their examination. The extension across the border is, however, important, as it not only indicates a very extensive development of this valuable mineral, but will pro- bably increase tbe trafile on the Queens- land railways, as they afford greater facilities of conveyance to the sea ports than the roads across the...

MA Its for Bowen and Townsville cloie at 5 p.m. to-day, per " Boomerang," e.a. WE saw the other day come very interesting specimens of natural history in the shape of three live crocodiles, each abbot 16 inches long. These interesting creatures are the property of Mr. E. HtJffiUi, ancj watty we un¿ira¿cdt found on the river bank, near Pleystowe Planta- tion having just escaped from the eggs, hatched on a mound of earth or mud, aomewhat re- sembling the nest of a buab turley. Mine of them were found running about on the nest, but from mistaken kindness in the shape of over feeding eil of the number have eince died. The remaining three are now about a month old. are very lively, and are well looked after by tho owner, who feeds them with small pieces of raw beef, thrust down their throats with a pieoe of .tiok.
