Let's Talk by Pastor Ray Sines Collegian Staff Writer What is your goal? Did you know that nearly 90 percent of college freshmen in our nation have no idea what they want to do in life? The numbers are not much lower for sophomores and juniors either. Why? Most students, as a whole, have no idea what they would like to accomplish in life. This even bears record by how often a student will change his/her major or enter the drop-add line. I remember, as an eight-year-old child, one day I wanted to be a fireman, the next day a doctor, two weeks later a fire chief, and even a bit later a carpenter. I probably never spent more than two minutes thinking about any profession in particular. One day it seemed more prestigious to be a fireman, another day a doctor. Why is it so hard for an individual to decide what HE WOULD LIKE TO DO? Is it perhaps because others have tried to act the role and failed or is it because of a personal "learned disability" of your own? Then, again, it may...

Bob Geldof finds himself Deep in the heart of Nowhere by Paul Miniger Collegian Staff Writer Nobel Peace prize runner-up, Bob Geldof, has found time away from his Band-Aid efforts to make a new album. "Deep in the Heart of Nowhere" is a collection of songs written and sung by ex-Boomtown Rat, Bob Geldof. And ;ven without the Rats, "Deep in the Heart of Nowhere" overflows with creative talent. Dave Stewart, Allison Moyet, Brian Setzer and Eric Clapton are among the twentythree players on the album. And with that many names, there's bound to be a hit. "This is the World Calling" is probably the most popular song off the album. It ironically combines the lyrics of a man who's lost hope with a sweet lullaby. Consequently, its grief struck lyrics ring familiar with Geldofs last hit "I Don't Like Mondays." Two other songs, "In the Pouring Rain" and "Love Like a Rocket" are so much more power- Bob Geldof ful and upbeat that they too _wil soon be hits. These songs resemble older Booom...

Two heads are better than one by Lisa Hahn got this idea because he spent some Collegian Staff Writer time in Tennessee. The next skit involves Barber impersonating Willie Nelson while singing "For All the Girls I've Loved Before." This scene has an interesting twist to it because Barber has an album cover of Julio Iglesias standing up beside him. Meredith speaks on Black Movement by Julie Karasinski Collegian Feature Editor Jan. 19 is a special day for oui country, as is made evident by its recently acquired status .as a National Holiday. That day is Martin Luther King's birthday. King was and still is a symbol of freedom and the Black Movement. James Meredith, who will be visiting Behrend on Feb. 19, is an expert on that topic. Mr. Meredith has led a busy life, dedicated to the Black Movement. He was born in Attala County, Kosciusko, Mississippi, in 1933. As early as 1951, he was pondering his course of action: he won the American Legion Essay contest by outlining his plans to make America free. From 1951 to 1960, he was a member of the United States Air Force, during which time he waged a continuous campaign in the United States Armed Forces to eliminate discriminatory practices. Then he returned to Mississippi with a plan to break the system of white supremacy. Meredith has made big steps for his race: he was the fi...

Gorniak and Holmes sink 1000 points each -9. University Relations When she sank the two foul shots that brought her career total to 1,000 points during the Cubs' January 23 clash with Gannon University, Penn State-Behrend's Sue Holmes reached one goal. Now she's reaching for another. "I want to break Behrend's record for career points," said Holmes, her brown eyes shining, excited but defiant, during a reception after the game. " I love winning. I like setting goals for myself and meeting them. And I hate to lose. It's the worst thing in the world." Chances are Holmes, who has slammed a total of 1,035 points during her collegiate career so far, will meet that second goal as she continues to threaten former Cubs' star Missy Stasenko's 1981-85 record of 1,057 points. "She can do anything she puts her mind to ," said Cubs Head Coach Karin Sobotta, who's been Holmes' mentor for both of the senior's two years at Behrend (Holmes transferred in 1985 after spending two years at Penn S...

Gorniak'_s dedication is key * %S by Angela Papaleo Collegian Staff Writer Every individual strives for perfection, to break records and be number one. This is the case with senior Randy Gorniak, who scored his thousandth point against College of Wooster in Ohio on January 21. Randy is a starting forward and captain of the men's basketball team. At 6'8",225 pounds, he leads the team with an average of 20.8 points per game. According to the NCAA News, Randy is ranked first in Division III schools in rebounds with 16.5 per game. The win over Wooster was of great excitement to everyone. And although the breaking of the record should have also been cause for celebration, for Randy it was not as great as it could have been. "No one really checked the points up till then", said Randy. "I was more concerned with exceeding the rebounding record wich stands at 1,002, I have 924 and 11 games left". Fortunately he only needs eight per game, therefore we should see this event occur very s...
