Take Me To The BaSI Game by Dave Lojewski Sports Editor Every year at this time baseball managers take on the task of trying to agree with their players and come to some type of terms to get their contracts signed. Since the business world has taken over the sports world, the task is always long and tiresome and headaches are numerous. This type of negotiating is not limited to the pro circuit. One kind of negotiating was not covered by the press and did not get world wide attention but 'to those involved it was very, very important. At the end of a long dark hallway we see a light coming out of a room. As we slowly make our way down the hall we hear voices coming out of the dimly lit room. Inside the room posters of Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Roberto Clemente, and Snoopy cover the walls. Sitting at a desk located in the corner of the room is the Coach and the Captain of the "32nd Street Furburgers." The Captain is 9 year old "Birchie" Bump otherwise known as the Birch. The re...

The Outdoor Information Center By Vic Kopnitsky This is the dull period for outdoor activity. Most trips into the outdoors this time of year are made by people in cars. There are very few hikers because ol the muddy ground in the woods. Few fisherman will brave the icy rains and cold winds once the ice becomes weak on lakes and ponds. For the most _prrt the hunting season has long been over. The bird watchers are eagerly waiting for better weather and the return of the migrating birds. The campers have put their equipment away at the advent of bad weather in the fall. A few people do get out to trap for beaver this time of year but their numbers are very small. It is odd that hiking, camping, fishing, hunting, bird watching, and beaver trapping can be extremely enjoyable now because there are very few people in the woods. Hiking can be very rewarding this time of year because the hibernating animals are beginning to move around in the woods and are occasionally out during th...

SGA New Meeting Place Proves Successful By Commencing in Residence Hall Lobbies English Lovers Can _iVoti? Write! By Jim Benner Staff Writer Energy or power is a force, that when harnessed can be of unlimited value to man. The power of any group of people especially students, is also a valuable component to utilize. Perhaps the first step in harnessing student energy on Behrend campus was taken Monday evening, February 19 at the SGA meeting held in Perry Hall lobby. Many students who just happened to be there or passing through took an interest in the discussions that ensued once the meeting began. Ideas, gripes, a few laughs, all contributed to a spirit of openness and communication. The meeting lasted nearly two hours, at the end of which it seemed a beginning of actual student concern had evolved. Along the lines of Food Service, the problem with providing warm food in Dobbins Hall arose. If not so palatable for its flavor, at least it might be kept warm. The RUB grill ...

Oswald, Penn State President, Visits Behrend To Discuss School's New Status with Students In an attempt to offer students the opportunity to discuss the significance of the new status ol Behrend College John W. Oswald, Penn State President, held a meeting during his visit last week. Although sparcely attended, the comments made by Oswald covered a wide range of problems from academic to university functions. Oswald remarked that one of the things that came out of his first year of office was the clear indication of the participation of students in the educational process. Every campus is under the requirement to constructively involve students in the proper kind of input in higher education. The future of Penn State relates to how effectively branch campuses and Behrend College do the job. Last year over 40 per cent of Penn State's graduates went to a commonwealth campus. Very soon more than 70 per cent of the graduates wll have received their initial college experience off ...

Behrend to Become Art Center in May By Jim Benner Staff Writer When people think of art, certain places like Paris, Vienna, and Venice come to mind. They are or have been sites of great importance to the development of art. Well, certainly no sustained comparison between any one of them and Behrend can be made realistically. However, when May rolls around, for a brief six day period, local and student artists in all fields of art will display their talents and bring just a small touch of those places to mind. In order to present the best examples of work within that period ( May 15-20), the coordinating committee for the Behrend College Spring Arts Festival held its second meeting the evening of Thursday, February 15 and drew up a tentative schedule. A more permanent' schedule will be published later, but the following general outline describes what can be expected. Tuesday evening May 15, the Behrend orchestra and chorus A volcanic rock spewn from the bowels of the earth? A...

Health Service is Adequate by Susan Goldberg The health services at Behrend are progressive. During the past decade, there has been tremendous improvements due to several factors. Everyone complains about the inadequacy of the dispensary. Two small rooms don't fully accommodate full-time and adjunct students. The equipment is not extensive. There is no weekend coverage, no daily physician and not always enough medicine. There is no infirmary. All in all - it's a poor excuse for health facilities for a college - Right? Wrong! Certainly, the majority of students are under the previously mentioned misconceptions, as I was before writing this article. The flu epidemic provoked me to question the competence of our health services. Bedridden for 3 davs, without my mother to cater to my every whim, the absence of an infirmary and no weekend coverage was really quite aggravating. Several other suffered from the same "being sick away from home for the first time" syndrome. To my surp...

REGISTRATION Registration for the Spring term 1973 will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 27, and 281973 in the Reed Union Building. Spring Term classes will then commence with the first period class on Thursday, March 29,_1973,officially ending with the last period class on Thursday, June 7,1973. Final examinations will then follow on Friday and Saturday, June 8 and 9. Students should plan to meet with their advisers on the day PRECEDING their actual registration. All students are responsible for setting up a mutually satisfactory time for such a meeting with their adviser prior to leaving for the term break. At this meeting with the adviser, it is hoped that several things might be accomplished: 1. Student should look over the "adjusted" pre-registration work sheet and not any changes in time or any class closings. At this time the Number 2 Card should be prepared indicating those classes and sections for which the student hopes to enroll. 2. Student should receive ...
