A.0IG AD LAl'GUABLG ACCIDENT. A Young Lady Falls Tlirotigli a ÖHSTS3'. From the Louisville Courier, July 23. One of those annoying, jet ludicrous accidents, which will happen in the best of families, occurred on Sundry not over a thousand miles from this city. A dry Ooda clerk had an encasement to take his love out buggy riding. Early in the morning he appeared before her father's door with one of these spider-like vehicles which are probably constructed with a view of ascertaining how light a buggy can be made, and at the same time be serviceable. The lady is sweet sixteen, beautiful, and just a little bit of what is termed 'fast." She is full of life, fun and frolic, and is decidedly embonpoint, weighing about 140 pounds. As the young gcutlemm drove up, his lady love was standing on the top step at the front door with her venerable father, who had his gold specs elevated on his forehead, in order to get a distant view of his future son-in-law. Adonis jumped out of the buggy, prepa...

l j- THE MOUTH DEMOCRAT. .r. (;.osroiic S. ff,. Il iRVUY, Editors. PLVnOIJTII, IXDIAA: THURSDAY, AUGUST 8, 18G7. Hovr to ray it. How to pay the national debt is a problem that is beginuing to attract considerable attention. A proposition made by a correspondent ct the Cincinnati Enquirer that the debt be paid at once in legal tender notes, olios greenbacks, seems to meet with some favor both in llepublican and Democratic circles. It is urged in behalf of this hnasure tbat it would at once relieve the people from the .heavy burdeus of tasatiou to which they are now subject, make money plenty and thus restore the financial prosperity of the country. On the other baud it is objected that to do this, would be an act cf bad faith toward the bondholders, who relied on the promise of the Government to pay the interest and the principal of at least a portion of the bonds in gold. Wc can not see the force of this objection. Previous to the issue of legal tenders thousands of citizens entered...

Rising or llic Democratic Tide. The Democratic tide is rising, east, west, north aod south. A Cincinnati correspondent of the Boston Post sends the following gratifying intelligence from that quarter. He says : "The Democracy has gained strength in the State ever since the election which has showed such a gratifying gain. It has leen, in the Legislature, ou the right side of the question in every case, which has agitated that body. Common sense, liber1 ity and souud principles have guided the members, and when these have not carried the day it has been because of lack of such qualities on the llepublican side. Throughout the State, so far as I have been able to gather, there, is a growing sentiment in favor of Democracy. The tide v.hich turned at the last election is rising with a rush, which, I doubt not, will give us next year a Democratic Legislature as well as a Democratic Governor. The same cheering news cornea from Maine and Northern New England, and the con.titutiona! parly a...

TOE PLYMOUTH DEMOCRAT. PZ.VHOI7TII, IXDIAXA: THURSDAY, AUGUST 22, 1SG7 DEMOCRATIC TICKET. For Clerk, JOHN C. CUSIIMAN. For Surveyor, MAKTIN II. RICE. For Commissioner, JONAS MILLER. Original Secessionists. In the beginning of the year 1S61, just before the commencement of the war, the editor of the Republican made use of the following language : ''If no compromise can be agreed upon that will be satisfactory to the South, we would prefer peaceable secession to a bloody and desolating war." Again he said : 'We are in favor of Congress calling a convention to settle the difficulties in &omc wav, either Iv amending the Constitution ay or providing lor a peaceable separation." The above extracts are taken from a carefully written editorial in the 31. C. Jitpullicaa and show beyond cavil what were the views theu entertained by 3Ir. 31attingly. CO i - ' Kentucky and Tcnncssop. These two States lie side by sicle, and contain a population in most respects similar. Each has had its State election within the pait few days, and although Tennessee h the more southerly State and seceded in the rebellion, it was carried by the iiepublicans by a large majority; while Kentucky, which never scceJed,was carried by a Democratic majority twice as large. Kentucky, the home of Henry Clay and John J. Crittenden, ra3 in our past politics a Whig State ; while Tennessee, the huuie of Andrew Johnson and James K Polle, was a Democratic State. Why is it that the more Southern, the seceding and formerly Democratic State, has given the great radical majority, while the more northern, the loyal and formerly the Whig State, has given a still greater Democratic majority ? The explanation rf this paradox li-s in the fact that in Kentucky political action is free, while in Tennessee it is not. There can be no doubt that the whie population of Tennessee...
