The first event that came off was between TIMBRELL ANDJTii . roRD . —Edwin Timbrell is of Hulrrte , and James Tilford is a resident of tha city of Manchester , and their conteit was to run 120 yards , for £ 15 a side , j The betting at first was at evens , but frior to tbe start 6 to 5 was in many instances laid on Tilford . Wakely held an inquest at the Lord Portman Tavern , Broadley Terrace , Dorse square , on the body of Mr . William Swallow , aged 74 , a master shoemaker , late of No . 7 Boston street , who committed suicide by hanging himself . It appeared that on the 3 d inst . the wife of the deceased , whose age was 72 , and to whom he had been married 4 G years , was buried , having died after a short Illness . Since that event the deceased had been inconsolable for his loss , and had frequently exclaimed that he should never survive it , for having lived with her ao long he could not live without her .- On Friday momine week , not making his appearas usual , a lodger in the house entered his bedroom , when he discovered him , Blilf and told , hanging to a nail in the wall .
