THE STATE. Miss Ford Suffocated. Miss Esther Fitch Ford of Lansing, a sister of Congressman II. M. Ford of Grand Rapid, was afllictod with toothache and Saturday, July iW, purchased a small bottle of chloroform to relieve tho pain. She wm much better the next day and entered heartily into the Hans which she and her sister, Miss Fanny, secretary of tho state board of corrections and charitlos, wero making for a summer outiug at the resorts of the northern iart of tho state. Early in tho evoning she had a recurrence of the toothacho and rotirod to her room. Later her sister followed and found Esthor lying face downward on tho pillow. She iokoto her, aud receiving no reply, attempted to raise hor, but discovered that sho was dead. Tho conclusion was at once formed that tho young lady had inhaled some of the drug, and becoming drowsy from its effocts, sho fell "pon the pillow with her face burid in it. Thero sho uncouaciously suffocated. The coronor's Jury reached this conclusion also, ...

The stato assembly K. of L. convened In Jackson on tho 7th inst with about one hun dred delegates present, Master Workman C. E. Barnes 01 Lansing, in the chair. A committee on credential was appointed consisting of Charles Haaso of Lansing: Joseph B. Allen of Holland ; A. E. Law rence of Coleman. Recess then taken until afternoon. Upon calling to order of the afternoon aession the report of the commit tee on credentials was received, after which the master workman delivered an able address in which ho rocommonds that the stato assembly be given sole Jurisdic tion over the order in the state; that a leg islative committee be appointed to go to Lansing and work in the interest of labor bills; that a stato lecturer bo placed in the field to give open lectures on the aims and objects of the association.
