DECEMBER 1 984 , .... ■ , * ** SACHSE SENTINEL Page 29 s*l planning o c (0 c by Bill Wood, CPA -- 272-8507 i PROPERTY SALES (Tax Trap) Selling properly will require more care than ever under the 1984 Tax Act. The interest rate must meet new re- quirements or the IRS will impute (assign) an interest rate. Prior law had a fixed 9% simple interest rate that had to be charged or the IRS would impute interest at a 10% compounded rate. Now the interest rate will fluctuate with government obligations. Sales of business property where both gains and losses are involved will now be subject to a complicated five- year netting procedure. Congress was concerned that sales of property could be alternated year-by-year to create nothing but losses in one year, and have those losses treated as ordinary loss, and nothing but gains in another year, with those gains treated as capital gains. Using the installment sale method lo sell depreciated property may leave you paying more income tax in the year...

Page 24 SACHSE SENTINEL DECEMBER 1084 Legal Guns For Deer Subject of Confusion What kind of gun is legal for deer hunting in Texas? This is a question which often bounces around hunting camps and sporting goods houses this time of year when thousands of Texas hunters are heading for the deer lease. Texas Parks and Wildlife Depart- ment officials said the regulations are fairly liberal, but there are some types of guns and other devices which are prohibited for deer hunting. "Probably the most-asked question is can I use a .22-caliber rifle to hunt deer," said Capt. Harold Oates, inland game and fish law enforcement super- visor. "The answer is that only fire- arms utilizing centerfire ammunition can be used, therefore, rimfire .22s are definitely prohibited." Another frequent question involves automatic weapons. "Semi-automatic rifles or shotguns which require the trigger to be pulled and released for each shot are legal, but true automatic guns of the machine-gun type are not," Oat...

****** DECEMBER f> « IS v 1084 « i* «* a4 ".*< Opera in Sachse ? mm ■ Yes, it's true: Sachse has produced its first opera, and your children helped make it possible. On Tuesday, Novem- ber 20, Librarian Sally Koch, assisted by Valerie Retan, hosted a special Thanksgiving Preschool Storytime at the Sachse Public Library. Children from Sonshine Daycare, Children's Learning Center and Day Care, and the open community storytime group all descended on the library dressed in costume as Indians and pilgrims. The Thanksgiving story told by Sally emphasized our religious freedoms in America, the importance of being good neighbors (like the Indians and the pilgrims), and things we can all be thankful for. But the children not only enjoyed listening to the story, they took part in the telling of it by singing various parts, both as soloists and as a chorus. Their time together was topped off with a visit from Tom Turkey's stand-in, a chicken. The Storytime group meeting Thurs- day mornin...

A: The policy must he read to see what notice the company requires be- fore it is liable to the insured. The com- pany may insist that since you did not report the accident in time, they were not able to investigate. The courts hold fairly strictly against insurance companies in this sort of dis- agreement. Walters. The increase in disability compensa- tion and other benefits is the result of the Veterans' Benefits Improvements Act of 1984 signed into law by Presi- dent Reagan. The rate boost means an increase from $1,255 to $1,295 per month for a veteran with a disability rated at 100 percent. Veterans with a 50 percent disability will receive $376 a month, up from $364, and those with 10 percent ratings will get $66 a month, up from $64. The legislation also increases to $349 the annual allowance made to certain veterans whose artificial limbs or wheelchairs cause wear on their cloth- ing. In addition, the bill provides the same percentage increase in dependen- cy...
