Noel said hie hopes to attend art school after he graduates. Noel's artist's statement: "Art has and will always be the way that I express myself! All of the art classes that I have taken throughout my high school years have helped me grow tremendously as an artist Picking up that paint brush, colored pencils, charcoal sticks or oil pastels launch so many creative ideas that I place on a plain sheet of paper or white canvas. Of course none of my pieces compare to those famous art pieces of greater artists that maybe perhaps someday I will become!" Engbrock Managing Editor Donnita Nesbit Fisher Guest Editorials Parents should have tutorial choice voice I What is in a voice, if it can't be used? Have you ever felt forced to do something? If so, the students at Wylie High School feel your pain and frustration. Recently mandatory TAKS tutorial sessions were distributed to students that scored poorly on the previous year's TAKS test. Evidently parents are not given the choice to put kheir students in the tutorial sessions; they are just ^old that their student will be attending TAKS tuto- rials. The negative perception from students and par- ents is that the tutorial cannot be missed without consequences being given to the student. There are two available types of tutorials, the mandatory pullout TAKS tutorial and the mandatory after school TAKS tutoria...

Thursday, March 30, 2006 - THE SACHSE NEWS - Section B - Page 3 Wylie Boys Soccer Ineligible player costs Pirates playoff win By Greg Ford LINDALE — A valiant effort was all for naught Friday, the result of an oversight regarding UIL rules. The Wylie boys' soccer team thought it had earned a well-deserved 2-1 victory over Mount Pleasant at Eagle Stadium. However, by Monday morning it was determined that the Pirates had to forfeit the contest, because of participation by an ineligible player. As a result. Mount Pleasant was scheduled to play Longview Pine Tree in a second-round game in Lindalc. "You're disappointed for those kids," Wylie athletic director Mark Ball said. "Those kids had a great year, and played extremely hard Friday. To find out they have to forfeit, you feel for those kids. If you're on the team, or are one of the par- ents of those kids, it's hard to accept," The rule involves when a player is eligible to suit up. It was...

The three Wylie residents will be playing women's league football for the Dallas Diamonds this season. Wylie trio makes the cut for women's football league By Greg Ford As with many interesting stories, this one began with a phone call. McMillan Junior High School coach Shelly Alvarado got the notion to play women's professional football, so she called her friend and fellow coach, Kasia Reese, to get her to try out as well. Reese, in turn, got hold of Donna Valdepena, a detective with the Wylie Police Department, about joining in on the fun. So, a while back all three tried out for the Dallas Diamonds, and, lo and behold, the trio, along with n...

Could a doctor perform surgery without his instruments? The same could be said for a budding landscaper - his lawn or gar- den is much easier to care for if the right tools were employed. Plus, it might prove to be less strenuous work as well. Prior to making any landscaping plans, make an assessment of your tool portfolio. Note items you'll need to accomplish goals outdoors. Here are some good items to include: Trowel: A strong, quality trowel will make easy work of overturning soil and getting to the root of weeds. Shovel: There are many shovels out there, but finding one that fits your stature will make work much easier. Look for a shovel with a handle that reaches your shoulders, the width of the bar fitting comfortably in you...
