TOOLANGI. (From our Correspondent.) November 14. A meeting of the Yea River Rail way Leagpue was held' here on Satur day last, at which there was a large attendance, and Mr. D. Underwood occupied the chair. After a long dis cussion, in which many took part, the threatiied rupture was healed and peace once more reigned in all its glory. The treasurer having tendered his resignation, Mr. A. Rose was elected .tO, the vacancy, and it was decided to make a call of 10s. per member. Assistance from Kinglake is shortly expected, as their only hope of obtaining railway communicatian is via ''oolan'i. Up 'to the present they have indeed been harking up the wrong tree, \but now that theyi have had their eyes opened 1 suppose they will acknow ledge their mistake of long ago. COM PAUL AND TANTE. [Newspaper Article] — Healesville Guardian and Yarra Glen Guardian — 17 November 1899

- 1. - i AL ;; ') 'e.- -- (By OxE Wuo KIsows Tmar.) n President and Mrs. Kruger inhabit a substantial, albeit nlodest enough lookine, brick dwelling at Pretoria. Oin Paul and his household are very eairly risers; Ii e o'clock not only sees the Presiden(cy astir, but the President (sonrtiines in, Ihis shirt .lteves, some tiris in his schlal frock, sometimes in his Methodist parson-like array of sombre black) seated on the stoop in his favorite big chair, and thoughtfully pulling at that loig pipe of his--one of his faveorite friends. From this hour till about eight, when his secre taries arrive, C),omn Paul may ie ap iroached with impunity, although twelve and four used to be his favorite calling hours. Not that much could ever be obtained in the way one would call " conversation," for Oomn Paul, though really an ail:bl ail kindiy old gentlieman ihelln not on show, is before strsrigtrs Ira>qu,:, taciturn, and ro,uOSe, by turns, rifus s to speak English, though he undrt-rstands it ...

ALARMING COACH ACCIDENT. FIVE PERSONS INJURElI. A TRYING EXPERIENCE. MIRACULOUS ESCAPE FROM FATAL RESULTS. On Tuesduy evening last, information reached Healesville that an accident had apparently happened to the coach which is run daily between here and Marysville by Messrs. Sheehan and Grant. The first evidence of tile mis hap was obtained by Mr. J. Biggs, of Healesville, who happened to be com ing along the Fernshaw road near Lindupp's, when his attention was directed to a horse, with some harness attached making its ivay towards the town, and a casual scrutin3y bf the animal sufficed for him to knbv' to whom it belonged. Mr. Biggs secured the horse, which was found to be bleeding from several abrasions and wounds, and trembling with fright, and led him along the road as hastily as possible, the beast being too much knocked about to permit of its being ridden. The task of leading the horse under the circumstances was no light one, as the animal was showing signs of stiffness and h...

WlJ @uaritan. re'lLISIEeD FRIDAY M?OKrNINGS. FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 17, 1899. GENERAL NEWS, Now that summer is approaching, the blackberry nuisance is again at tracting attention owing to the bushes being but a harbor for snakes and vermin. It is well-known that many reptiles have been seen making their way in aacd out of these bushes dur ing the few warm clays that we have had so far this season, but no action is considered necessary by our shire coun cillors to eradicate them in any form whatever. Some time ago it was de cided at the coenei': fabre that steps should be taken to remove, as best possible, tlhis undesirable growth in our midst. Property owners were to be requested to keep their land clear of this nuisance, and though thFire is no reason to doubt that landed owners were so informed, the Shim' Council should have seen that their decision was acted upon. It can hardly be ex. pected that property-holders are going to clear their land of the lbushes:v-hen many of the thorough'f...
