MR. THOS. S. HATCHER. [Newspaper Article] — Hopetoun Courier and Mallee Pioneer — 18 December 1914

MR. THOS. S. HATCHEIt. It is with the very deepest regret we chronicle the death of Mr. Thomas Stafford Hatcher, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Hatcher, of Goynra, which occurred in a private hospital, Melbourne, on Monday afternoon last. The deceased, who was only .30 years of age, had been suffering for some .considerable time from an internal • complaint. He was under medical' atention at Warracknabeal for some time, and several weeks ago his fathor^took him to Melbourne whore he entered a private hospital. Despite all that modical skill and •skilful nursing could do, however, the end came as stated. The deceased was an un obtrusive, well-behaved young man, liked by all who knew him. His death came as a great shock to his parents, and brothers and sisters, who have the deepest sympathy of a very wide circle of friends. The interment took place at the Brighton cemetery on Wednesday last.

Torrential Rainfall. [Newspaper Article] — Hopetoun Courier and Mallee Pioneer — 18 December 1914

Torrential Rainfall. The best fall of rain on any one clay that has occurred at Hopetonn for years past tool: place 011 Monday last. Steady rain 60t in early on Monday morning and about C o'clock it came down heavily. The gauge at 9 a.m. Bhowed 87 points, when there was a break in the weather. The local barometers,' however, were very low, and it jvas evident that it was not all over. About' 5.30 p.m. it again came on, and just before 6 o'clock it came pouriug down in really tropical style. The gutters in the streets were in a few minutes overflowing, water rushing everywhere. It ceased shortly after G o'clock, dur ing which time an* additional 815 points were registered, but as it rained with such violence, with a fair wind blowing, it is extremely unlikely that the gauges were capa ble of accurately registering the full quantity ihat had fallen. About 70 points fell in the f-paco of 20 minutes. The total fall for the day was 170 points. The downpour was indeed very acceptable, and...

MAKE YOUR DISTRICT KNOWN. [Newspaper Article] — Hopetoun Courier and Mallee Pioneer — 24 December 1914

MAKE fOUR DISTRICT KNOWN. Concerning some parts of the dis trict news comes but seldom. This is not entirely our fault; we liavo no miraculous power of knowing what is happening at all the places within our area of circulation. It is the fault of residents iu the silent places. "Will some man or woman take the matter in hand and cause the silence to cease. • If no one is doing it for your district, will you try on these lines? Send accounts of public and social events in your township and neigh borhood, such as weddings, deaths, accidents, concerts, matters touching district industries, etc. Write the names of persons very distinctly. Don't bother" about grammar or spelling ; it's the oditor's work to look atter those trifles. The barest skeleton is enough. Write only oil 0110 side of .the paper. Giveinformation; but let criticism alone. Write your name and address on same corner—not for publication, .'but to prove good faith.
