Mr. M'BAr? is quite right to insist on the Government going on with the Railway Construction Bill. Sir JAr.s M?'CULLocst antd his Ministry has been too long permitted for party purposes, and that only, to play fast and loose with the best interests of the colony, and the recent attempt to postpone railway construc tion till another session, when ithe moneoy Is in hand for immediately carrying out the work, is sheer imper. tinlnce. THE BRANXHOLME TO CASTERTON RAILWAY. [Newspaper Article] — Portland Guardian — 15 December 1876

TERTON RAILWAY. TnE Argus, in its issue of Monday last, prior to the re-introduction of railway construction business to the House, pounced upon the weakest of many weak features in the bill and spoke with no uncertain sound. The arguments we have urged for so many years, have at length been endorsed to the fullest by that most powerful agent for good or ill, the leading journal of the country, and the per. sistent push we have made to obtain a recognition of the claims of this line has at length met with a thoroughly gratifying acknowledgemeot. Country journals, in advocating their put schemes, can hardly expect to escape the imputation of partiality, but con sistency in advocacy will have its effect, and as dropping waters wear away the stone, make its mark at last last. The Argus says : There is no portion of the Government railway scheme more open to crticism than that which provides for the construction of a line from W arrnmubool to Hawkesd.ile. In the eyes of a great many thi...
