Breaches of the Municipal By laws. At the Shoalhaven Police Court on Tuesday last, before Mesurs. J. H. Nis bett, P.M., J. Glanville, and Dr. King, Js.P., William Griffin, Inspector of Nuis ances for the Nowra municipality, pro ceeded against William Sody Oke, on a charge of 'neglecting andrefuiing' to have his earth-closet emptied once every seven days, as required by the municipal by-laws. Mr. Marriott for the Inspector ; Mr. Whittell for defendant.™ Mr. Whittell asked in the first instance that he might see plaintiffs authority to prosecute. The document was handed to him from the Bench, and after perusing it Mr. Whittell said he would object to it as it appointed nn particular person to prose cute. The form, or ? number of such forms, had evidently been signed indis criminately by the Mayor, leaving a blank space for the inscription of the name of any person that might be appointed to prosecute. But that had not been done. He would, however, waive that objection, being desirous ...

SCems. for Dairy Farmers The Kialla butter factory, near Crook well, paid milk suppliers 5d per gallon for last month's milk. A central creamery is to be estab lished at Cluncs, Richmond Rivpr, by a. company of dairy farmers with a capital of £5000, in £1 shares, to be called the North Coast Fresh Food and Air Company, Ltd. The Land and the People. TO THE EDITOR OF THE SHOALHAVEN NEWS. [Newspaper Article] — The Shoalhaven News and South Coast Districts Advertiser — 8 July 1893

The Land and the People. TO TVS EDITOR OF THE SHOALHAVEK HEWS. Sir, — That the existing system of land legislation in this colony is of a most un satisfactory character is a fact which admits of no dispute. Although for over thirty years we have been legislating with a view to enabling the people to settle on the land, the actual result has been to discourage land settlement and yet fur ther lock up the public lands. From be ginning to end our land legislation has been more in favor of the land grabber wholesale manner in which the land has been transferred from the original selectors to the owners of great estates. The large properties are becoming larger and larger every year, yet instead of demand ing that the system bo checked, it is insisted that it be perpetuated, for this is what the cry for the further nlieiiation of the land amounts to, for so long as the land can be bought cheap and resold at a profit, there will exist a greater induce ment to sell than to Bettle. If we mu...

The Federation Movement. TO THE EDITOR OF THE SHOALHAVEN NEWS. [Newspaper Article] — The Shoalhaven News and South Coast Districts Advertiser — 8 July 1893

The Federation Korement SO TBB EDITOB 07 THE SHOALHAVEN 1TEWS. Sir,— That the protectionist Mr. Barton, and the freetrader Mr. M'Millan should be found assisting to initiate the new federation movement in this colony is a happy augury, but that both should insist that the movement become taken out of tbe realms of party politics is happier still. It is insisted that the work of federation Bhall not be undertaken by any one party, that it Bhall not constitute a political platform, but that it shall be undertaken by the people for the people. This was the principle laid down by tho ixationai Association, wnose action ubb hastened the establishment of the new movement, to which the Association is giving every assistance. What is wanted is that thn people aB a body, including all ranks and conditions, shall make their wi8h.es known, not through political leaders or seekers after seats in parliament, but through their own representatives, chosen expressly for that purpose. The Vengeance of the Ballot-Box. [Newspaper Article] — The Shoalhaven News and South Coast Districts Advertiser — 8 July 1893

The Vengeance of the BallotBos I thoroughly believe tbe electors should make an example of tbe present Legislative Assembly, for in ray opinion the programme of this parliament has been one of ' bluff' — it I may use the term — from first to last. This means that the present Government party should meet with an overwhelming reverse at tbe ballot-box. After all the work in the House we are not a jot nADWP -x aMift.inn nf ffi* nnacfiAna fkaf have distracted this country for the last five years, and which caused the great labour upheaval of 1890. 'Kaotiaiia.*' [By J. S. W. M'Bxalb.1 It was a glorious autumn morning when I entered the harbour of Wellington. The Mitrance does not seem conducive to safety in a landman's eyes, owing to some sharp jugged rocks, but I was told no mishap had ever occurred. On rounding a headland, a full view of the Empire city was spread out before mess in a panorama.. At first sight I thought it had been much vfuueu oiiu was aw. a oaa-jqoiuug place, but on closer acquaintance I found that like Lisbon, Constantinople, and even Naples, it looks best at a distance. The city of Wellington is built upon the shores of a truly magnificent harbour, and can boast of not a few fine public buildings. The fashionable lounge is Lambton Quay, which is flanked with some good shops having their commodities most tastefully displayed. On any fine afternoon the flower and beauty may be seen doing the block— tho ladies dress as well as they do in Sydney or Melbourne. Wellington is the residence of the Governor, the s...

Jiadiandy Butter Factory A COMMISSION AGENT'S INSPEC TION. Mr. Thomas Clark, Commission Agent, of King street, Sydney, being in the dis trict during the week paid a visit to tho Jindiandy Dairy Company's factory, and after being shown over the premises expressed himself as highly pleased with the methodical and efficient way the large establishment . is worked. Coming from a gentleman of Mr. Clark's ex perience, tnis opinion ana meea ot praise must afford considerable satisfaction to those having charge of the working gear of the factory, and more especially to the manager as being a genuine reminder that the working of the factory sinoe his taking charge has borno good fruit.
