Wasn't Good For Ellm. Ho got home late, his residence being in Redfern ; but his little daughter, named Ruby, -was still awake, and inquisitive, as usual. ' To get money to buy my little pet clothes,' he returned. ' And toys ?' she went on, ' Yes ; and toys.' She thought the matter over for a few moments, then she said : ' I don't think it's good for you to work at nights, papa.' ' Why not, my dear child ?' he asked. 'It always makes your mouth smell like tbe bung-hole of a b*er-barrel !'

Women not Required in Politics. [Newspaper Article] — The Blayney Advocate and Carcoar Herald — 26 November 1898

Women not Required in I Politics. A writer in tho 'Sunday Times ' says ; — Permit me to offer a few roasons not ' Why Women should be Pushed Back,' but why they should not become voters. Women as a body do not demand or care for the suff rage. Women are not naturally interested in politics, and ouri ng ;i fairly long life I never knew but one woman who would take the trouble to re:id Lhrough a Parliamentary debate. Shows their good sense. It is true, there is a section of women who are red:hot abaut obtaining tho suffrug-, but, alas, they hardly represent their sox ; rather, might 1 say, they arc those .vho by their mannUii hess are doing much io misrepresent them. 'Women in politic.! seems to mo an un necessary eletin-n', as they are, except in a few extreme casw?, well represented by their husbands, sons, and brother*, and we in New South Wales, at any rale, have no reason to complain that the iiiembei's of Parliament elected by purely male votes fail to legislate iu the interest ...

Municipal Idiosyncrasy. [Newspaper Article] — The Blayney Advocate and Carcoar Herald — 26 November 1898

municipal Idiosyncrasy* A.t the masting of the Blayney municipal council on Wednesday evsning Alderman Woodward had a motion to bring forward tlie object 'of which iftfi to mivke inquiries and ascertain what would be tbe expenses necessary to light the town with gas, elec-: tricity, or any other light. And no doubt a discussion on such a subject would eventu ally lead to some practical results. Our Object at |ne present tune is -not to qeal ?with the question of lighting the town, but rather to ui;ike the attempt at infusing a jittle mora light on the understanding* and peculiarities of some of the aldermen, which seein to he of a very obtuse nature. It appears that some years ago the council was dealing with the question of lighting the tq.vn wjth gas, and even went so far as to rent a piece of ground from Government on which to ereat g.-is works. Eventually, however, after going to a lot of expense, the council by motion decided not to go on with (he matter. This of course settled...
