THE XEW XOETHERN COLOXT. Ik order to set at rest nny doubts as to the Tights and otherwise of individuals or com panies to squat on lands within the bounda ries of Qncensland, aud having in view the movements now progressing in Victoria for establishing new communities within onr territory on the shores of Carpentaria, and in Bnrkesland, our Government have for warded notifications to Victoria to be pub lished in the ' Government Gazette' to the effect that all persons desiring so to settle can obtain authority to occupy lands only through this Government upon proper .ippli- i cation. There is na doaht that tin's small sum of money, doled out in driblets, was expended in a. very partial manner, tlie Brisbane corps of course getting the lion's share. Whilst the Brisbane Volunteers were amply provided \vitu targets and cart rit?£es, their comrades of IpsirTch were in raia making npplieation after appli cation for those necessary appliances.
