Fiom a large tow' a few miles away a small party set off in a waggonette for the show. One young fellow witii a particularly biting tongue was a thorn in the side of the driver of the conveyance. The wag chaffed him unmercifully, mid a dozen laughs were raised at poor Jehu's expense ere the end of the journey was reached. Then, however, the long-sufferiug driver paid his tormentor back with interest. He was collecting the fares, a shilling each, and when he received the funny man's coin he held it in his palm as if doubtful whether to accept it or not. ' I'm a native of tlie district, sir,' lie explained, ' and a well-wisher of the show. I don't usually charge for con veying exhibits ; but as you're such a valuable specimen, well, I'll make an exception in your case ! ' And he pocketed the shilling.
