PACKETS. ETC. Preparation for Post. Packets . may be sent thri ugh the pos without a cover (but not fastened with anyt thing adhesive, such as gum, postage stamp, sealing wax, etc.); in a cover irely open' at one end or side (if the be slit, the opening must be of the extent of the end or side, and the contents must be easy of withdrawal). The cover may bear the sender's name and address, and the words, "packet," "sample," or "pattern," etc., as the case may be, "only." Packets may be tied with string, but officers of the department may cut the string to examine the contents, and tic the packet up again. Samples of seeds, drugs, etc., which cannot be sent as open packets, may be enclosed in bags or boxes, fastened so as to be easily undone and re-fastened. If ad dressed to places in the United Kingdom only, they may be sent in closed-trans parent bags. Sir,—My attention having been drawn to a letter published in the NTumurkah " Leader," in which Mr D. McNamara eulogises the unsel fish, philanthropic, and far reaching action of Cr Campbell in opening a road that has been closed for the last quarter of a century. I really think the ratepajers ought to give Cr Campbell some tangible inaik of their appreciation of his disinterested services in looking after our interests. Mr McNamara's presentation of a number of goats (billies I presume), to my thinking, is not adequate for the s-rvice rendered. As a rate payer of Nathalia,. Orange Blossoms. MORDEN-FERGUSON. At "L-mond Downs," Barwon, on August ii, the marriage was cele brated of well-known district resi dents. The Rev I. Glynn Jones officiated. The contracting and happy parties were Mr J. H. Morden and Miss M. D, Ferguson. After the ceremony the guests, who were numerous, sat down to an excellent wedding breakfast, when the usual felicitous toasts were honored Full justice having been done to the good thiHgs, the young couple took their departure for Melbourne, being bidden a hearty farewell as they le.ft for their honeymoon. Auctioneer's Report Messrs Peck Sons &amp; Biggar's report having held another highly success ful Horse Sale at Tatura, July 29, when there was a total yarding of 167 head of horses comprising all classes. The attendance was not very large, but with the competition of one or two buyers in addition to local operators, were successful in selling by auction 43 horses. Concert at Picola / There was, as anticipated, a bum per house at the entertainment given on behalf of the funds of the Picola West State School, in the Federal Hall, on Friday evening last. The chairman of the school committee, Mr J. M'Gowan occupied the chair, and intimated that this %vas their fourth concert, and each time their programme had been an improve ment. on the last.
