News Jobs Attract More Qualified Applicants [Newspaper Article] — C.C. Reader — 14 February 1975

News Jobs Attract More Qualified Applicants University Park,-More applicants for newspaper jobs with higher qualifications was the situation depicted by Donald W. Diehl, editor and president of the Easton . Pa. Express during a two-day visit as editor-inresidence at the Penna. State University. "We're seeing about ten applications a week for our news staff as compared to one just three or four years ago,"says Diehl, who also heads up WEEX-AM and WQQQ-FM in Easton and two newspapers in New Jersey, the weekly Star-Gazette and the semi-weekly Forum "Many of the candidates have masters' degrees or previous experience as reporters, and their grade point averages are higher." While there are more candidates, there are also fewer openings, Diehl points out. "Our own people seem less eager to test the waters and change jobs. Attrition seems to be running under 10 percent, and a number of papers are not replacing all retirees. It's a nice problem from the newspaper's point of view si...

©arnfjelm iWeettttfl [Newspaper Article] — C.C. Reader — 21 February 1975

©arnfjelm iWeettttfl All undergraduate and graduate students interested in working on publication of Tarnhelm, the Capitol literary magazine, are urged to attend an organizational meeting in Room E330 on Friday, Feb 21, at 1:45. Tarnhelm has been in existence for three years. Chartered and funded by SGA, it has potential for becoming a noteworthy publication. It needs a small committed editorial staff and contributionspoetry, short stories, drama, literary essays, photography, and other art forms-from students, faculty, and staff. Writers who feel they cannot contribute much time are nevertheless encouraged to attend the meeting and share ideas. Photographers and others with expertise in art forms which can be printed on off-set are most welcome. Those with magazine experience at other schools can help in many ways. §Pri . n ? . . Registration ^^^^ thai intArA«»4 that interest [Newspaper Article] — C.C. Reader — 21 February 1975

§Pri .n ? . . Registration ^^^^ thai intArA«»4 that interest The Student Government Association wishes to point out a fact you may not be aware of. In each suite of Professors' offices, there exists a thick blue binder which is called a Course Manual. This Manual contains an indepth description of many courses and in some instances, recommends prerequisites. We spoke with Dean Wolf earlier this term and he assured us that the Manual is available to all students for their review. If the college catalog does not give you enough information about courses you, then check out the Course Manual found in each office suite. If you still draw a blank then seek and track down the Professor to find out specific course content texts, and requirements. We were informed that costs would be too high for course descriptions to be longer than they now are, so that is why the Course Manual in the blue binder exists. The burden of finding out what you're getting into rests on your shoulders. H...

Casino Night Next Tuesday Good Peoples productions, while planning this Spring's festivities, decided that if there was going to be a concert, there was also going to have to be more money, and so it came to pass that Casino Night was born. Throughout the evening there will be auctions for prizes, which have been donated by local retail merchants in this area. The " "Money" used in the betting and the auctions will be G.P.P. "dollars" which will be available that night - $10,000. for $1.00. Admission to the student ...
