He then sent to tlie desk to be read a speech of Govonior Hrown, of Missouri, which he said was proof that it was intended to nom inate a candidate at Cincinnati. Governor Brown's speech shows that he has some idea of getting the nomination himself, but if some man from some other Stale should be preferred—meaning, of course, the San ator from Illinois—he (Hrown) would cheer fully support him. The Senator from Illi nois, it was pretty well understood through the country, would be a candidate before that convention. The Senator had, in view of this, separated himself from the Repub lican party, but he remained within easy distance, so that if necessary he could re turn.
