The radical Republicans, black and white, of the District of Columbia recent ly held a jollification over thrir triumph ia the late election there. An invitation, it peema, was extended to Butler to be present on the occasion, but not beiüg able to attend he wrote them a letter from which we quote the following extracts. An rnpnblished Anecdote About George Washington. The following letter is contained in ex President YanBuren's recently published volume on political parties in the United States: Ogdexsburg. N. Y., April SO, 1857. ,'Uou. J. Von Büren : "DAK Sir During the session of the Presbyterian General Assembly, in Ciu-; nnnati, in May, lbo2, I dined twice at the hospitable mansion of Hon. Jacob Burnet, now deceased. He was born in Newark, New Jersey, in 1770, and was the son of Dr. AVilliam Burnet, who was in the medical service of his country through the revolution. Judge Burnet was acquainted with our early distinguish ed statesman, and his conversation was rich in the recollection of their manners and characters. He related an anecdote of Washington, which he had from the lips of Alexander Hamilton. "When the convention to form the Con stitution was sitting in Philadelphia, in 17S7, of which General Washington was president, he had stated the evenings to receive the calls of his friends. At...
