S&s W&ictiitk gailij 0lc: gfcurstias l0roittj Semite 23. 1886. &M .1J i C5?r. . . jarrn M. M. JfDKDOCK, Editor. THURSDAY MORNING. DEC. 23, 1880, DRUGWUMPISM. The Leavenworth Times complains, and bitterly, that the Topeka Capital and Atch ison Champion persist in defending the grogshops drugwump stores of their re spective localities. The idea of a paper, published iD a city where a jury, in defi ance of unimpeached and undisputed testi mon, and in the face of the open door of a notorious saloon, returned a verdict of not guilry, should charge conspicuous pro hibitory organs with catering to the whisky trade, is an article bursting full of fun. If; Dan Anthony would remove a large crate post or two from his own ej'cs he might more properly attempt the description of the small splin ters which seem, in his judgment, to be ir ritating he visual organs of his two broth ers respectively. The Times of yesterday says: "The Times is in this fight to stay, and if ever' administra...

The Capital kindly notifies the Eagle that Topeka prefers to let Wichita enjoy her unreasonable boom built of wind. Thank you. Kansas City and several oth er places prefer the same thing, probably because they can't help themselves. So all hands are happy. The building and business boom which is getting in its work on Wichita appears to be not" all wind. It is of the texture of a cyclone. The Capital's wisdom would have been more conspicuous had it congratulated Topeka on the fact that she was at so safe a dista...

There is striking similarity in the respec tive careers of Wichita and Omaha. Ex cept that the latter city-stood in 1870 in population where Wiehita stands now. The finishing of the Union Pacific hav ing turned loose several thousand trained railroad builders, their engines were largely concentrated in building up the then rap idly developing system of Kansas.
