From Sax* Jo^e., [Newspaper Article] — Los Angeles Star — 31 July 1852

From Sax* Jo^e., The people of the Pueblo, having got tired of "city life," and turned their attention to farming, are now actively engaged in harvesting their crops in the surrounding country.— This employment pays .better than building towns faster than they are wanted, and we may look for a large increase in the production of vegetables, before the numerous towns in the Valley will present any material signs of improvement. The crops of barlev, oats and wheat, are quite extensive, and the yield per acre will be very large. An immense quantity of onions will be raised, and all kinds of vegetables are abundant.— Times and Transcript.
