Folklorico dancers Hundreds of East L.A.-Belvedere children wore entertained at the 34th annual Belvedere children's Christmas, Party on Saturday, Dec. 22. One of the entertainment highlights was the performance of the St. Hilary Ballet Folklorico under the direction of Victoria Maria. They performed authentic dances skillfully in colorful costumes. Hispanic families earn less than median SACRAMENTO (Capitol) The median income for Hispanic families in the United States in 1978 was $12,600, which is substantially below the $17,906 median for families not of Spanish origin, the Census Bureau reported recently. The statistics from the census Bureau, an Agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce, are based on a 1979 survey and they also show a discrepancy between family earnings among families with different Spanish origins. CUBANS The family income of Cuban families was $15,300, while the median incomes of Mexican and Puerto Rican families were $12,800 and $8,300 respectively. Other statistics gathered show that only 8 percent of the Spanish labor force is employed as professional or technical workers while 17 percent of all workers are either professional or technical workers. Most of the estimated 12.1 million Hispanics in the United States were of Mexican origin (7.3 million) the report says. Other totals were 1.7 million of Pue...

Cancer test offered at hospital On Jan. 27-28, from 10 a.m. to 6 pm., White Memorial Medical Center will offer a screening test for persons over 40 to detect colo-rectal cancer, or cancer of the bowel. The screening test, called ‘Hemoccult,” can help detect early signs of the disease. Test kits and information on how to use them will be available free to the community; the actual test is done by the person himself in the privacy of his or her home. Women’s awareness class offered by Foundation The Mexican American Opportunity Foundation (MAOF) will be offering a free six week women's awareness class, starting Jan. 8. The class will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. at. the MAOF offices in Monterey Park. The class covers several areas. The first uses films and slide presentations to acquaint women with the variety of skilled jobs that make up- the construction industry, as well as job qualifications for each trade. Herb blend makes chicken delicious Herb Blend For Chicken 2 tbsps. chervil 4 tsps. marjoram 4 tsps. parsley 2 tsps. thyme 2 tsps. rosemary 8 tsps. salt (or to taste) tsp. pepper With a mortar and pestle or in an electric blender, crush the ingredients through the rosemary. Mix in the salt and .pepper and store the mixture iq a tightly covered jar. To use on roast or broiled chicken, brush the skin with melted butter and sprinkle on about I tablespoon of the blend for each 3 pounds of chicken. Baste the bird with the drippings during cooking.
