FROM YOUR CITY COUNCIL COUNCIL MEETING JAN. 9, 1978 The City Council met in regular session with all members present. There were no questions on the minutes from the previous meeting or the bills for payment. Both passed. The request for a wrecking service fran- chise was tabled since Gale Davis was not present. Joe Stone requested, on behalf of Mrs. Bryant (Sachse Librarian) that she be allowed $5.00 every two months to cover expenses to and from meetings, etc. She is on the Dallas County Library Board and has extra meetings to attend. Dan Scar- borough made a motion to allow Mrs. Bryant $5.00 every two months. Andrews seconded the motion and the motion carried. Devon Reed owns some land which is included in the flood plain. He posed several questions to the council. If the land is in the flood plain does it increase or de- crease the value of the land? The general conclusion was it basically decreased the value since the owner in the flood plain has to purchase additional flood in...

LAKE LAVON REPORT Corps of Engineers lakes in Texas are stepping up activities in observing "National Wildlife Week March 19-25 in support of the theme "Wildlife Needs You," according to Colonel John F. Wall, District Engineer of the Fort Worth District, U. S. Army Corps of Engineers. "We are intensifying our management of all wildlife species and trying to pre- serve the habitats presently available. We will stop hunting, as necessary, to protect eagles, ospreys, peregrin falcons (known as duck hawks) and whooping cranes when they stop at any of our 17 lakes," Colonel Wall said. Food plots for wildlife have been planted at almost all of the lakes, Colonel Wall pointed out, prior to the bad winter weather we have just been through. "Native foods didn't hold up and snow cover made most of them unavailable to songbirds and quail. We will continue planting food and cover to enhance habitats for all kinds of wildlife which reside around our lakes." Col. Wall went on to say "We are also ...

LAKE LAVON REPORT Lavon's current elevation is 485.33, still nearly seven feet low, and we are hoping spring rains will bring us up to our new elevation of 492. All boat ramps are still usable. The camper service areas in Lavonia and Little Ridge Parks were opened for the summer season on April 3. All four areas including East Fork and Collin Parks, are in full operation. The fee for using these areas is $3.50 per day for complete hook-ups. If the past two weekends of spring like weather are an indication of what is to come, this will be a very busy summer at the lake. Sand bass are schooling and large catches in the 2 to 3 pound range have been reported. Several hybrid stripers have been reported in the 3 to 4 pound range. Crappie are biting up the creeks, but have not moved into the shallow water of the lake to spawn. Water temperature near the dam on March 31 was 53 degrees Fahrenheit and was about the same down to 33 feet. Channel cat are beginning to bite, but no reports of any...
