ÍÜ S. W. THOMAS, Editor and Proprietor. ASPERMONT, Stonewall Co., TEXAS, Thursday, June 25,1906. LOG ROLLING AND BARBECUE A SUCCESS An Immense Crowd Enjoyed Themselves Highly For Two Days at Gatling The'people of Stonewall county are under lasting obligations to Hahn Camp No. 2223 for the pleasure afforded them during the picnic June 19th and 20th. The first day was a basket picnic and the Gatling ladies are certainly adepts in the culinary art. They had more good things cooked than we've ever seen, and there was plenty of it. Not only was there plenty to eat but there were amusements of various kinds. Friday evening Travis Dashiels of Austin addressed the people on "Tell the Truth on Texas" and in a masterly way he^efended our present admin- istration and explained the ad- vantage /of many of our new laws. He is a very forcible speaker and Gatling was fortu- nate to secure such a speaker. W. J. Bryan, of Abilene, can- didate for State Senate, also ad- dressed the people in the inte...

A "Vear* HARRISON TELEPHONE NUMBER 13 Entered at the Postoffice at Asper- mont, Texas, as second-class mail matter. Rotan will have a big three- days b irbecue July 9,10 and 11th. Much to the chagrin and disappointment of his enemies in Texas, Senator Joseph W. Bailey is now on the road to complete recovery and will be able to at- tend the Denver convention. An exchange tells a horrible tale about a young lady who jerked back herjheadsosuddenly to keep from being kissed that she broke her rieck. This should be a warning to all girls not to jerk back. In fact it is better to lean a bit forward. Gov. Wilson of Kentucky has pardoned Caleb Powers and James B. Howard, who were convicted of complicity in the murder of Gov. Goebel. He assigned as a reason for the ac- tion that he believed that they were innocent of the crime. That is a resourceful man w...

JOHNSON-GRflDDOGK LAND TITLE COMPANY If You want to make a Loan on Your Land get Johnson to make Your W. S. Featherston a Benedict Some days ago, without the knowledge or consent of the editor, W. S. Featherston slipped out of town and before we had an\r tidings of his whereabouts or intentions he had landed in the little town of Gustine, in Com- anche county, where on Sunday, June 14th, he was quietly wedded to Miss Etta Boyd, one of Gus- tine's fairest daughters. He arrived in Aspermont with his blushing bride on Friday evening of last week and since seeing the lady of his choice, we have forgiven his rude conduct and join his many friends here in wishing himself and lady a pleasant, profitable and peace- able journey down life's rugged pathway. What shall we do about a picnic for Aspermont this summer? Surely we are not going to sit still and let it go by default. Why not have a big blow-out just on the eve of the primary elec- tion and give the candidates a chance to tell their ...

■ ■ ■ * ; k k S. W. THOMAS, Editor and Proprietor. ASPERMONT, Stonewall Co., TEXAS, Thursday, July 2,1908. Vol. 10* No. FINE RAIN VISITS STONEWALL COUNTY. Came at a Time When Badly Needed. Crops Now Assured. On Wednesday night fine rains visited our county, insuring crops of all kinds and gladdening the hearts of the farmers. Corn had begun to suffer to some extent and no doubt the crop is cut a little short on account of the recent hot dry days, but there k will yet be lots of corn made. Cotton had never suffered for want of rain, but it will now get up and grow as never before. Feed crops are assured and watermelons are smiling on the vine. Hurrah! for Stonewall, the banner county of northwest Texas. To The Voters Owing to the fact that I am very busy with my tax rolls it will be impossible for me to get out and see all of you, and I take this method of asking your sup- port in my race for re-election and assure you that same will be appreciated. If you see proper to again honor m...
