W?IIITTLESEA RACES. TusnDAr , 2Grlt DEcuInOE, 1882. Tilo annual meet of tho above race club was held in the paddock adjoining Mr. Timms's hotel, Whlittlosea, on loxing Day. The weather was all that could be desired. There was a very good at tendance. Mr. Tinnns had a booth on the course, which was well stocked with refreshlments, and, its a matter of course, was well patronised by the public. The racilg on the, whole was good, and the Ci were no disputes or serious acci dents to tonar the plelasure of the on lookers. Mr. TaIubman had very hard luck with his horse Young Confusion, who startd for three events, and made a mull of each one; dislodging his rider twice, and running inside a post. The Stewards, 1lessrs. 1ININ1G S.URVEYOR'S QUARTERLY REPORT. ST. ANItItICW'S DIVISION. Mr. Alfred Armstrong, Minining Sur veyor lind Registrar, reports for the quarter ending September 30th :-I have very little change to report in this division since last quarter. In alluvial mining there are fewer miners working, and the earnings have been less en oeuraging than formerly. There are so many public works giving employment to laborers that prospecting has entirely ceased. The Hydraulic Sluicing Sanmpny's works, at Warburton, are now let on tribute to a party. of Chinese, who, are reported to be well setistled. with.their returns... The returns from the few quartz claims working, although smnall, show a slight improvement on' hast quarter; some very rich stone has lioon struek by the Phmanix Company, Onun's Reef, and 'the reef Ihas also improved in thickness.' The party working` the licclhanto clhti, -north. on the same line, have not succeeded in striking anly thing payable, and' have chanlpl tlhe site of t...

YARRA FLATS ANNUAL RACES. These races wore hold on the Yarra Park Course, Yarra Flats, on Boxing Day. The weather was splendid and the attetndance larger than usual, owing probably to the increased facilities for travelling by rail to Lilydale, and thenlce by coach. The pleasure of the meetinlg was mnarred by al unfortunate accident which occurred during the running of the Consolation Stakes. Two ladies were driving homewalds necrss the course in a buggy Iblonging to Mr. I. It. Woolcott, of View Hill, there being also in the vehicle two of iMr. Woolcolt's children. The buggy being upon the track just as the race was started, the second. horse, after travelling about a quarter of a mile, narrowly escaled a collis:ion, but the third horse was not so fortunate, . and ran into the fore part of the vehicle, shattering the fore-carri:te and front wheels. Th'le o?upll:nllts wore, of (urset thrown out, the youngeost child Ibing shaken and bruised, and the rider of the horse suflbring concus...
