GONE WEST. [Newspaper Article] — The Leader — 10 January 1919

GONE WEST. Behind the reddened waters, and the land, The sun is sinking grandly to his rest ; And, watching him, we come to under stand, He's but 'Gone West.' To-morrow's dawn will bring him back again; A thousand birds will greet him with a song, And. thus once more triumphantly he'll reign O'er right and wrong.' Across the 'reddened land and tossing, waves, A thousand messages have winged their flight; Some speak of joy's return, and some of graves, In 'other lands to-night. And some bear word of our unshrouded dead, That on the battle field have found their rest; ' That we think of them their last 'good- bye' was said, But they're 'Gone West.' 'Gone West,' the glory and the pride of youth ; ' - The wisdom and experience of age; Counting life's losses a gain, in very truth, 'To keep our heritage. Wi-th morning's dawn they'll not return again, -? - The rising sun will not disturb their rest, Btu we will 'carry on' in joy or pain, For. those 'Gone West.' Among a jcrowd .of people wh...
