OUR MELBOURNE LETTER. WEDNESDAY, 10th, DEC. [Newspaper Article] — Warragul Guardian and Buln Buln and Narracan Shire Advocate — 11 December 1879

OUR M3ELBOURNIE, LETTER. (FROI OUR OWN cCORarESPONDENT.) vEDnr.SD.\Y, 10th, D?ee. By this time all your readers must Ie aware that Mr. Munro has been returned for Carlton by a very large, in fact a triumphant majority. This election maybe regarded as a valuable indication that the Liberal cause is m:laking steady progress, and that the Conservative party is retro grading. MIr. Curtain, backed by the Op position and the Catholic vote, was put forward to wrest this seat from the Govern mtect, and has met with a decisive and crushing defeat. This, of itself, is sufll cient to reassure the faint-hearted amongst the Liberals that the much talked of Conservative reaction is a shams and a myth. It is much to be regrettel that in the heat of debate some men are not infre quently betrayed into giving utterance to words that, on cool rellection, they would wish unsaid. Mr. Longmnore is one of the greatest sinners in this respect, and in his unfortunate remarks with respect to the late Judge F...

BUNYIP. [Newspaper Article] — Warragul Guardian and Buln Buln and Narracan Shire Advocate — 11 December 1879

BUNYtIP. (FrP.O OUR OWNcl CORRIESPONDENT.) Grat strides have lately taken plae in our to.ni, nld although we cannscr~cely hope that it will rival Warragul in impor tnuce, there are many indications that it is yet to have a large increase of liuildihiI and inhabitants. Our new State school is completed and is to be opened shortly with a social gathering. The building reflects great credit on the contractor, Mr. Dempsey, and is quite an ornament to the town. The lirewool trade is assuming great propor tions, there being daily a large number of loals despatched to Melbourne. Amongst our miost pressing wants is thatt of regular religions services. We are too far distant fran Ilerwick to hope for assistance from that qu?urter; bnt should any of our Wara gs I frie ids find time on the Sabbath d ty to assist us in conducting occasional church services, I can safely say that their nunis ? - tr:ttious would be warmly responded to. Perhaps some clergyman or local preacher, having an occcsiona...
