The Schoolmaster Abroad. Mr. Taylor, one of the Monmouthshire inspec tors of schools, cites the following answers given to his questions iu geography by pupil teachers under examination: — ' King John signed the Magna Charta iu 1815.' Profits of Evaporated Fruits. During the last two or three years horticul turists liavc been experimenting with methods of evaporation, and, although much remains to be learned, enough is known to de monstrate that the grandest industry of the Pacific Coast is to spring. from this plan of preserving fruit. The old plan of drying fruit ui the sun is extrcmly objectionable because much of the substance, as well as the flavor, is lost. While lying in the sun a chemical change takes place which discolours the jrlutj alters its taste, aud completely destroys its virtues. Bees, yellow jackets and flies also carry away much of the iueat, and ' millers' deposit their eggs in it to finally develops larvie. Subjected to a heat of . 110 or 1 GO degrees for a period of from twelve to twtnty-four hours, all kinds of fruit come out of the evaporator, soft pliable and jucy, and not robbed of one single desirable quality, except the water they con tuiued.
