FINGER BOWLS IN FASHION LONG BEFORE FORKS. A delightful example of the pro grcos of our table manners is wrap ped up in the story of the humble domestic fork. Charles Jackson, F.S.A., who for the last twenty-five years has been tracing and compiling records of the evolution of table eti quette, says that in mediaeval times the absence, or lack, of the fork must have made feeding a uomewht unpleasant sight. FIELD. - Under the auspices of the Fairfield Swimming Club, a commencement was mmade this week with tile compctition among the members for the Meadow's trophy at the local site on the Yarra.
