THE COBDEN TIMES Published on Wednesdays and Saturdays. SATURDAY, AUGUST 31, 1918. Fire at Cobden. [Newspaper Article] — Cobden Times — 31 August 1918

THE Cobden Times Publiihed on Wednesdays and Saturday!. SATURDAY, AUGUST 31, 1018. Fire at Cobden. On Wednesday night or early on Thursday morning the shop at the corner of Curdie and Victoria streets known as Peiper's, but owned by Mr. R. Silvester, and occupied by Messrs. Tregea & Itobertsou, tinsmiths, was totally destroyed by lire. About 12.30 a.m. smoke could'be seen rising above the surrounding buildings, and an examination showed the shop in qu'estion to be on fire. Rev. E. L. \V0od3 and Mr. Leo Thompson were quickly on the scene, and roused both the cwner and occupier, but the fire had got such a hold of the building, which was very old, that it was impossible to do anything except pull the adjoining fence down to keep it from speeding. The tinsmiths had a large stock in the shop including machines, milk cans, &c., which were awaiting repair, and though they had their stock insured, the amount will only partly cover the loss sustained. The building was also i...

Advertise and Prosper. Here are sixteen good reasons why you should advertise:— [Newspaper Article] — Cobden Times — 31 August 1918

Advertise and Prosper. Here are sixt«en good reasons why you should advwtise :— 1. Money investigated in judicious advertising is like a boomerang— it ia bound to come back again with redoubled power. 2. The most results dou't come from the most expenditure. They come from the most intelligent expendi ture. 3. Advertise for business ; then ' advertise to make it better, then j advertise to keep it. 4. Sit still, and your business will sit still too. , 5. Advertising is not a necessity, neither "is the telephone, nor the telegraph, not1 the train ; but they are .mighty convenient when you want to get there quick. 6. There is no trade so settled but a vigorous competitor may take it away by advertising. 7. One or two insertions of an adver tisement seldom pny. It is the con secutive, continuous and persistent efforts that win in mlyertising, as in the affairs of business. 8. Advertise as you cut—regular and at reasonable quantity. 9. .Advertise just us a farmer plants eon), not a big ...

Letters to Soldiers. NEW FORM OF ADDRESS. [Newspaper Article] — Cobden Times — 31 August 1918

Letters to Soldiex's. NEW FORM OP ADDRESS. IfcV is desired by the military authorities abroad that the word " Australia" be included in everything addressed to any of the units, hence the necessity for including the words '•Australian Imperial Force," instead of" A.I.F." Confusion is being caused by the Australian correspondents using the Jetters "A.F.A." instead oi' writing the words " Australian Field Artillery" in full in the addrosses on letters and parcels- intended for members of that unit. The " Army Field Artillery," a British unit, uses .the same initials. Instructions have been issued that correspondence is to be adsrossed to " Australian" Field Artillery. In the case of infantry the distinguishing letter of the Company to which the soldier is attached should be shown thus :— No. 1231, Private .Thomas Atkins, "B"Company, 21nt Infuntry Battalion, Australian Imperial Force, Abroad. In Light Horse regiments the squadron should be indicated in the same way, as follow? :— No. 1...
