The judicious firmness of the President averted one of those scenes which everybody is apt to deplore afterwards. Though our report exceeds seven columns, we are com pelled to hold over three columns more. AT a meeting of Mr. A. F. Cameron's friends, held in the Shire Hall on Thursday evening, Mr. Steuart Wall was reqoeated to act as Secretrry, and Mr. 1. J. Kelly as Treasurer. It was decided that circulars should be sent to those who were likely to subberibe to the proposed testimonial. Min. D. MALONEY, who has been a ganger on the Tallarook-Yea Line for the past three years. has been transfe.led to Newport. O'Shea and Co.. started Irgging antimony on Wednesday last and will soon have a couple of truck-loads ready for market. Stevens and party have been merely shepherding the jumped ground around the blue shaft, and the suspension of work by Scott arid Co., pending the re sult of their application for lease, and of Smith and Co. to form a company, has reduced the.'number of men on the ground considerably. The others work fiig are 'Hunt and Co., who have sunk tlhefsd since my last letter a further distaince" of 12 feet, and started stripping the manganese lode on MIon dai) for the purpose of forwarding 10 tons of it to the Melbourne market. TI? MOUNTED E?T 'L TEAM. TIE? team of mounted riflemen who are to represent Victoria in the next English military tournament is now being chosen. Colonel Price, who is to go home with the team, will have personal command. The Captain of the team will be Captain M1'Leish, of the Yea and Alexandra detachment, a fine type of the Australian soldier. Lieutenants Bon and Tarrant will " cut out" in a series of competitions at Albert-park on Thursday next to decide who shall be the second officer in the team. Of the rank and file among those definitely chosen is Sergeant Ferguson, of the Melbourne detach ment of Mounted Rifles, who shot exceedingly well in the last Queen's Prize competition. The other three already selected are Privates Jefferson, Morley, and Lane. The names of Privates Martin and Redding are also under consideration, but Colonel Price will visit the country districts and hold competitions before finally comlpleting the team. The market was again moderatelysnpplied with good to prime qualities, and for such the demand was active at 6d per head higher than former quotations, while for the other descriptions nomaterial alteration in values can be quoted. Prime crossbred wethers, from ls to 13s: a few extra to 14s; prime crossbred ewes, from l0s to lie, a few extra to 12?; prime merino wethers, from 10s to 11s; extra do. do., from lie &d to 12s 6d; good do. do., from Ss 6& to 9s 6d; middling and inferior, from 6s; prime merino ewes, from 6s 6dto 7is6d, a few extra to s. FAT Lamxs.-4,500 were penned. The demand was brisk throughout, and an early clearance was effected at satisfactory rates.
