MORETON BAY. [Newspaper Article] — Northern Times — 21 January 1857

M O R E T 0 N II A Y. (From the Fntj.ire.) Punuo lkniDiNUj. — The appointment of a resident judge at this place hits rendered it neeessiry that the old convict buildings hitherto used as a Court House, should be placcd In an oflieicnt slate 111' repair. A sum of money amounting to some £M00 is estimated as being required to renovate and patch up this edifice, and to make the necessary alterations. Taking into consideration that this ttructuro hns been erected some thirty years, nnd built ill a sort of plaster and dab style, I think the autho rities will act very unwisely if they lay out such a sum of money upon it, because whenever they begin to alter nnd pull down this worn out affair, there will be no end to tlio job until a new building rises upon the ruins of the old. Much better would it bo nt onco to build a new Court Hou'o and other publio ollices elsewhere, and soli i tho ground upon which tho barracks stands, as the posi tion of the land will ensure its commanding high prir...
