ORIGINAL CORREISPONDENCE. CONVEYANCING. To the Editor of the Portland .Guhrdian. SIa-.-Feeling confident that any thing tending to the public-good will meet with prompt atten tion at the GuoaosAx. Oflice I have been in ducad to forward thd following observations for insertion in the columntl of your next nuinber. There are but. few, df the Australian 'Co lonies .'that are now in a flosuri'hing con-` dition, that individuals residing in .them have not been subject to serious inconvenience in consequence of defective titles to their landed and freehold paoperty, and endless litigation occasioned through the inaccuracies of convey ances. Itis desirable that such a state of things should be avoided in this district, and that every one who may happen to start oas conveyancer, should be tested as to his qualifications for the responsible, office he *engages to fulfil. MISCELLANEOUS. [Newspaper Article] — Portland Guardian and Normanby General Advertiser — 22 October 1842

ITIXS CELLANEOUS.· Cao.?,an:.-Constant change is the first law of society. The world is like a magic lantern, or shifting scenes of a p:ntomine. T1en yea s convert the population of schools into mln and womnon, the young into fathers and matrons, mnake and mar fortunes, and bury the last generation but one. Twenty years convert infants into lovers and fiathers and msithers, render youth thie operative generation, decide mnen's fortunes and dis tinction!s, convert" active men into crawlers and drivellers, and bury all the preceding generation. Thirty years raise an active generation from nonentity, change Licinating beauties into merely bearable old t;omen, convdrt lovers into grandfaithers and grand mothers, and bury the active generation, or reduce them to dccripitude and imbecility: Forty years; alas change the faci of all socdity ;. infants are growing old, the bloom of youth rind .beauty has passed a?way, two active generations have.been swept from the stage of life, names so ch...
