THE FARM. f - a crop worth florida VELVET bean. Wo recently directed attention to tlie new Florida /velvet bean, giving some particulars regarding its good qualities. Several correspondents have written asking for more infor mation, which we ace able to supply by; qnoting a letter which accom panied a consignment of the bean to England. The Florida shipper writes:— " Up to tvro years ago this bean wa3 grown in Florida in a limited way, mainly as a trellis shade, bat afterwards it became recognised as invalliable for ai! kinds of stock as a forage, and a phenomenal fertilizer for orange and other frnit trees, and for the soil as well, until it is now grown in large quantities. There is not hing yet discovered that is, all in all,; sj valuable a crop as this; for farmers to raise. It bcini* an air plant, it will do well in almost any Isind of soil, in any of the states, north or south,, that will grow corn, and no fertilising is necessary.
