Local and General News. The Donald Shire offices will be closed during the holidays from December 24 to January 2. At the Ballarat market cni Tues day 50 crossbred ewes and 71 lambs were disposed of 'on account Mr Arthur Johnson, Kelvin Grove, Watchem, and 4 crossbred ewes at •33s 31, 15 shorn lamhs at 20s IOd, and 112 comeback wethers at an average of 27s 5d on account of Mr M. Griffin, Roseview, Donald. Contrary to the usual custom, the Donald Shire Council will meet in January. Business premises in Donald will be closed for the Xtnas and New Year holidays on Saturday, Mou day, and Tuesday, December 25th, 27th, and 28th, and on Saturday, January 1st, 1916. Butchers and bakers' premises will be opened on Tuesday, December 28, but all the shops will be opened on Wednes day, December 29th. The Times will not be published on December 28 and January 4. THE WHEAT HARVEST. Now that the general conditions surounding the pooling of the wheat harvest is better understood, and it may be said appreciated, it has had one gereat effect upon the Donald farmers themselves. There is not now the feverish anxiety to rush the wheat in before the price drops, as has been the case formerly. The crops cau now be taken off with more leisure, if desirable, and brought into the railway station as ' needed. Farmers will be able to do their own carting for the same reason. The sales by the Govern ment in the English market are considered satisfactory.

THE SANITARY DEPOT. Cr. C. R. Basset is to be commen ded for having brought before the Donald Shire Council the alleged disorder at the sanitary depot. Mr Basset said' he had heard several complaints about the stench at the depot, which was worse than the Saltwater River at Footscray. It was said that night-soil had been left uncovered for some consider able time. He urged in the inter ests of the public health that the Inspector of Nuisances inspect the depot, and make a report to the council on the matter.
